Retaining Walls in Pendleton
Jessamine Landscaping builds retaining walls in Pendleton, boulder or SRW block. On a sloped Pendleton lot we stacked big gray boulders into a long wall at the foot of the hill, then leveled a gravel strip in front of it for chairs. Each wall gets a strong foundation and drainage behind it, because water pushing from behind is what moves walls.

The price follows the length and height of the wall, boulder or block, how much excavation is needed, whether it needs to be engineered, and access. A taller wall means more footing, structural elements such as geogrid, better drainage measures and engineering. Estimates are free, and you get the number after we see the yard.

Stacked boulders at the foot of a Pendleton hillside
In Pendleton we ran a boulder wall across the bottom of a mulched slope below the house, two and three stones high. In front of it we leveled a gravel pad right against the stone, with room for a row of chairs.
Boulders suit a hill like that: each stone carries its own weight and the face stays rough and natural. Want a clean, even face instead? We build SRW block too, with the same footing and drain stone behind it.

What we've built in Pendleton
- Pendleton is 13 miles from our Anderson base.
- We built flagstone slab steps with path lights up a mulched, planted slope to a dark board-and-batten house in Pendleton.
- At the foot of the slope we stacked a long boulder wall and leveled a gravel seating pad in front of it.
- In another Pendleton backyard we laid a raised paver patio with a lidded block fire pit and a curved seat wall.
Common Questions
Should I choose a boulder wall or a block wall?
A boulder wall is stacked natural stone with a rugged look that suits a slope. A segmental retaining wall (SRW) is interlocking block with a clean, even face. We build both. Which fits depends on the slope, the look you want and what the wall has to hold.
Is it normal for a retaining wall to lean back a little?
A segmental block wall is stepped back slightly as it rises, so it leans into the soil it holds. That is the design. A wall that leans outward, bulges or shows gaps has a problem, usually water behind it or a weak foundation.

How We Work
- Decades of experience. We bring decades of experience to every wall, boulder or block.
- Strong foundations. Every wall starts with a strong foundation, because a wall is only as steady as what it sits on.
- Proper drainage. Drainage is built behind the wall, so water has a way out.
- Built to last. Every wall gets its foundation and drainage before the first block or boulder goes up.
