Retaining Walls in Anderson
Jessamine Landscaping builds SRW block and boulder retaining walls in Anderson. Drainage goes behind every wall, because water trapped at the back is what pushes a wall over. When your yard sits on two levels, we cut stairs straight through the wall so you can walk between them. We walk the slope with you first, and the estimate is free.

The price follows the length and height of the wall, boulder or block, how much excavation is needed, whether it needs to be engineered, and access. A taller wall means more footing, structural elements such as geogrid, better drainage measures and engineering. Estimates are free, and you get the number after we see the yard.

Block walls and stairs on Anderson red clay
On one red clay lot we ran a long SRW wall across the yard, with a fenced pool deck on the high side. Block stairs go up the middle, and small lights in the stair walls come on at dusk so you can see every tread.
Anderson is filling in with dense new construction, slower than Greenville, and a lot of the new builds we see drain badly. Graded lots like those need walls with somewhere for the water to go. Smaller jobs count too, like a low block wall along a driveway with a strip of river rock at its foot and pine straw behind it.

- We've laid round and square paver patios here with block fire pits and seat walls, then finished them in new sod.
- We built a long block retaining wall with lit stairs up the middle, below a fenced pool deck.
- Along an iron pool fence we laid river rock drainage strips with black grates.
- We've put pop-up sprinklers in front lawns here, next to fresh mulch beds.
Common Questions
What goes behind a retaining wall?
There is a multitude of material that goes behind a wall such as 57 stone (drainage stone), non-woven geotextile fabric, geogrid, perforated pipe, compacted backfill, wall drains, and more.
Why do retaining walls lean or fail?
Almost always water and the footing. Water pushing from behind, or a foundation too weak for the load, moves a wall over time. That is why we start with a strong foundation and proper drainage, and why we build walls to last.
"Lex and his crew did an outstanding job building a retaining wall along one side of our house. We now have so much more usable yard space by making that all level. They were very professional, respectful, and hard working. We would HIGHLY recommend them for any of your landscaping needs!"

How We Work
- Decades of experience. We bring decades of experience to every wall, boulder or block.
- Strong foundations. Every wall starts with a strong foundation, because a wall is only as steady as what it sits on.
- Proper drainage. Drainage is built behind the wall, so water has a way out.
- Built to last. Every wall gets its foundation and drainage before the first block or boulder goes up.
